LET'S HELP YOUR STUDENT MOVE

FROM THE BACK OF THE TRAIN TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT!

Parents and teachers alike don’t want to see their students struggling but often are at a loss for how to help. Add to that the frustration that arises when it feels like you want it more than your student. Students with ADHD or a learning difference are constantly taking hits to their confidence, and over time it leads to a ‘why try when I just fail’ mentality.

It doesn’t have to be that way, and we will show you the path forward!

WHY I CREATED THE Focus Forward
CONFERENCE...

“IT TOOK MANY YEARS OF RIDING ON WHAT I CALL ‘THE HOT MESS EXPRESS”- FEELING FRAZZLED, UNORGANIZED, AND OVERWHELMED- BEFORE I WAS READY TO TAKE THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS WITH ADHD.”

HI! MY NAME IS Tyler Dorsey

I was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia in the 5th grade and struggled throughout my school career to keep up with projects, stay organized, and maintain a schedule. In my early 20s, I realized I needed to make some drastic changes if I wanted to become a more successful human, and I began to seek out resources.

I found a support system, developed a plan, and built a toolkit of concepts and tips that I could lean on. I went from feeling like I was always running behind, to taking control of my life and opening my own business so that I could help others who are struggling with the same obstacles that I faced for so long.

My parents were always searching for resources to help but there was very little out there. The Focus Forward Conference is here to provide parents and teachers access to quality experts who share their knowledge, tools, and resources to help you best support your struggling students.

WELCOME TO THE FOCUS FORWARD CONFERENCE, WE CANNOT WAIT TO HELP YOU THRIVE!

SUMMARY ABOUT SPEAKER SESSION
(MORE SPEAKERS COMING SOON)

Tyler was diagnosed with ADHD in 5th grade but didn’t learn to manage it until she was nearly 20.

While she tried her hardest in school, each year led to new disappointments as she failed to meet deadlines and expectations. The situation felt hopeless, and both Tyler and her parents were left frustrated and tired.

When the same pattern started to reoccur in college, she knew she had to make a change. Tyler leaned into the positive side of ADHD and hyper-focused on finding a support system that worked. She talked to experts and friends, researched, and through trial and error finally created a system that helped her cut through the noise and find success. Once she had a better understanding of herself, it was easier to find the tools needed to be more organized, stay on schedule, and even open her own business.

Katelyn Mabry hosts the national podcast "Journey with Me through ADHD: A Podcast for Kids." There she has hosted countless experts in the field of ADHD, including Ned Hallowell, the ADHD-specialized psychiatrist who established the strength-based approach to treating ADHD. Katelyn is an ADHD life coach with a master's as a Reading Specialist. She tutors children of all ages with a variety of needs. Certified as an Early Childhood/Special Education Teacher, she taught for seven years and then chose a career that allowed her to stay home to invest in her own children.

Katelyn was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of ten. It left her feeling very alone and different. She struggled with reading as a child, which ignited the desire to become a Reading Specialist, to face her weakness head-on, and to turn it into her strength. She is the author of the book "Hi, It's Me! I Have ADHD."

Angela Dodge is a registered dietitian with over 20 years of experience, with a focus primarily in pediatrics and childhood nutrition. She worked for 15 years as a clinical dietitian in acute care pediatric hematology and oncology where she was continually reminded of the effect food and nourishment have on the health and healing of a child.

Angela co-founded the virtual nutrition consulting practice Nourished Beginnings in 2018. Here, her focus and purpose have been aimed at educating families and practitioners that what we feed our children 100% has an effect, either positive or negative, on how they learn, grow, feel, and behave. Her goal is to help moms improve their child’s attention, focus, mood, growth, and ADHD symptoms through the effective and realistic use of food and targeted supplements.

Whitlie is an occupational therapist with 6 years of pediatric experience working with infants, children, and their families with a variety of diagnoses, struggles, and levels of function. She has been named the ‘Sensory Guru’ and provides tailored intervention via a bottom-up approach with an emphasis on optimal nervous system regulation and function.

Whitlie believes “one size fits all” will never apply to pediatric care. Whitlie teaches parents what to look for in their child’s behaviors or responses, which will empower them to know what to provide their child to best help at the moment.

Dr. April L. Coleman is a Georgia licensed psychologist and the clinical training site coordinator at the Georgia Autism Center in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. She has been working in the mental health field for 15 years and has been in private practice for the past 8 years. Dr. Coleman specializes in the comprehensive assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), specific learning differences, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

She works with individuals aged 12 months through young adulthood. Dr. Coleman also speaks at various parent events and workshops in which she educates parents and caregivers about the common signs of ADHD, ASD, specific learning differences, and anxiety; when it is time to seek support from a qualified professional for an assessment; and what next steps should be once the assessment process is complete and diagnoses are shared. Dr. Coleman resides in Metro Atlanta with her husband and their 16-month-old daughter.
